(Scholarship) MOSPI : Scheme For Internship For Post-Graduate/Research Students - March 2012

The Central Statistics Office in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation
announces the scheme of summer internship for post-graduate/research students of recognized universities/institutes during 2012-13. A total number of 210 interns are proposed to be selected during the year i.e. 2012-13. The broad fields/disciplines for interns include National Accounts, Economic Statistics (Including Index Numbers), Social Statistics, Field Surveys, Price Statistics, Official Statistical System and Software Development. The aim and scope, eligibility, duration, expected output from interns; remuneration and procedure for selection etc. are given in the enclosed scheme for internship.
Interested and eligible candidates may send their applications in the prescribed format to concerned Officers as per the details given in the enclosed scheme document.
(a) To facilitate the student either pursuing the post-graduate/research in statistics to study and get familiarize with the prevailing system of Official Statistics in the Country;
(b) The total number of internships would be 210 on all India basis as per the following distribution in two broad groups:

Eligibility:

The applicant should be a citizen of India and pursuing his/her post-graduation/research from a recognized College/University/Research institute in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Operational
Research/ Economics/ Demography or any of the applied field of Statistics.

Remuneration:

A token scholarship of Rs.10,000/-(consolidated) Rs.5000/- per month would be paid to the selected intern on successful completion of his/her internship at the end of internship period. If any
intern leaves the internship scheme in between, he/she will not be entitled for any scholarship/Certificate. A certificate will also be issued to the successful interns on completion of the internship by the respective offices they are attached.
The students opting for NSSO (FOD) Regional offices will be paid additional amount of Rs.250/-per day, so as to enable him/her to make field visits, if required, which should not exceed a maximum of 10 days in the entire period of 2 months of internship. The decision of field visit if required is to be taken by the respective Regional Heads of regional offices and should preferably be in the nearby area.

Procedure For Selection:

The applicant would be required to submit one and only one neatly typed application form clearly indicating, name, date of birth, address, qualification and the university/institute at present
pursuing his/her PG/Research work and the areas of interest for availing the internship as per the attached Application Form. If the applicant wishes to incorporate some more details, he/she may
do so on an extra sheet

How To Apply

The Filled in application form should be submitted either by post/ e-mail or by hand, so as to reach the respective offices as per the address/ e-mail address given in Annexure I for Group “A”
and annexure-II for Group “B” latest by 31st March, 2012. No application in any circumstances will be accepted after the closing date. The organizer will not be responsible for non-receipt or late
receipt of application.
